The Strong Women’s Group on Groote Eylandt enjoyed a special International Women’s Day lunch at the  Alyangula Recreation Club.

Women from the art centre took part and shared their latest designs in a fashion show.

The artists and designers were led by Noeleen Lalara and Maicie Lalara, who both have training and experience as models, skills they learned when they took part in the 2018 Country to Couture fashion show in Darwin.

Models were drawn from throughout the archipelago.

Noeleen, Maicie, Annabell Amagula and Edith Mamarika also organised a pandanas and ghost net weaving workshop.

Maicie says the fashion designs were shown to women from “all around Groote”. “I was feeling proud showing the world how we bring fashion back to community.”
