Major Creative Innovative Projects
Winchelsea Mining
Winchelsea Mining Pty Ltd (WM) is majority owned (currently at 60% ownership), by the traditional owners of Akwamburrkba Island. The name of this ORIC Corporation is Anindilyakwa Advancement Aboriginal Corporation. By mid-2022 it is proposed that direct shipping of high grade manganese ore would commence being exported. Profits from mining will repay the cost of infrastructure over the life of the mine with surplus being available to invest in the development of a world class seafood export industry.
Aquaculture
The Aquaculture program consists of three major project streams which are being developed in conjunction with leading industry professionals and university led research partnerships. The three project streams consist of Tropical Rock Lobster, Black lip Oysters, and Trepang.
Little Paradise Logistics Base
The Little Paradise logistics base is being established to support the activities of mining, aquaculture, tourism and timber milling.
Primary Boarding College
The proposed Primary Boarding College construction on Bickerton Island is supporting Culture, Language and Leadership through formal education delivery, utilising a bilingual curriculum in an independent Primary Boarding College.
The RDU and other ALC programs have supported the Groote Eylandt Bickerton Island Primary College Aboriginal Corporation (GEBIPCAC) in advocacy and implementation of this long-term educational objective. On behalf of the Directors, RDU submitted an ABA application for the construction costs of $27mill.
GEBIPCAC have engaged education expertise to work with them and on their behalf in regards to the complex and time sensitive tasks such as having the College to be accredited as a NTG non-government school in the current calendar year.
Telstra Backhaul and Microwave Network
The Telstra Backhaul project will see a marked improvement in general internet speeds, improved mobile coverage and reduced mobile congestion on the island, improved mobile download speeds and general telephony availability on the island.
The ALC is also in the process of implementing a private Microwave Network to connect all ALC offices and community support sites between Alyangula, Angurgu and Umbakumba. A microwave network is a high speed secure/private radio transmission network, that can be used to transmit voice, data, internet etc.between connected sites.
