There are many invasive and introduced weed species that pose a significant threat to the biodiversity on Groote Eylandt. These weed seeds can be transported on dirty vehicles, machinery, boots and tools.

The ALC requires all machinery, vehicles, tools, work boots, equipment and other items are washed, cleaned thoroughly and are completely free of soil and organic matter before being transported to the Groote Archipelago. All vehicles, machinery and freight will be inspected and failure to comply with this request may result in the items being returned to the port origin at owner’s expense.
