Our People
The Anindilyakwa Land Council (ALC) represents the Traditional Owners of the Groote archipelago and has jurisdiction over a large area of land and sea in the Groote archipelago with Traditional Owners of the land and sea country residing in the communities of Angurugu and Umbakumba on Groote Eylandt, and a Milyakburra on Bickerton Island. Since commencing in 1991, the ALC has grown to 9 departments and around 145 employees, with almost 50% of our workforce being Traditional Owners of the Groote archipelago.
The ALC operations are primarily located on Groote Eylandt. The main office is in the township of Alyangula, providing services and program delivery facilities in each community; Angurugu, Umbakumba, and Bickerton Island. The ALC also has an office located in Cairns that hosts the Finance Department, Royalty Development Unit, Infrastructure & Development, Human Resources and Information Technology staff.
An office in Darwin is currently being established to carry out operations primarily linked to 6 Local Decision Making Projects.
Board Members
The ALC Board comprises of clan representatives from the Indigenous clans within the ALC area, and one community representative from each of the communities of Angurugu, Umbakumba, and Milyakburra.
