
Marine Debris Project Officer
ALC Rangers are proud to be selected to run a pilot group for a ghost net and marine debris program. This fixed term 12 month opportunity will be offered on a part time basis of 32 hours per week Mon – Thurs. Funded to establish activities outlined in a fee for service contract with the Department of Agriculture, Water and Environment (DAWE). This position will be responsible for the implementation of the pilot project for marine debris and ghost net activities funded under the Indigenous Rangers Coastal Clean Ups Project (IRCCP). Activities will include the planning and coordination of Ranger marine debris and ghost net retrievals, aquatic biosecurity surveys and targeted marine biosecurity activities, reporting to the DAWE, liaising with other stakeholders including other Ranger groups in the Gulf of Carpentaria to develop strategies for ghost net and ocean plastic recycling opportunities, planning, and coordinating the annual Clean Up Groote Eylandt Day (CUGED) marine debris community clean up event.
You will work closely with the broader Biosecurity and Ranger group and help preserve and sustain the beautiful Groote archipelago by helping to reduce the negative impacts of marine debris and ghost nets.
